i'll take good care of you.

[the tower was an imposing feature of the long since abandoned industrial district. far away from the shops and the noise of the rest of tokyo, a dirty little stain on the map that was protected by a lot of paperwork and threats. it was difficult to get to, one would have to pass through a hiking trail through an eery forest, always dark and foreboding that was littered in rumors and legend. and in a world where the bogeyman did, in fact, exist? it was easy to keep the naive and normal away.

it was why bokuto chose it, and it was where he had his sanctuary for the lost and discarded. a place where the magically or paranormally inclined could rest without judgement. some stayed- there was plenty of room in the abandoned factories and warehouses, some joined his cause but others left when they felt they could reenter society. which was fair, he couldn't fault them. this was a world that was cold and unforgiving to those who were not normal. many were ignorant in their existence, most feared them... and none really understood.

as out of date and abandoned as his sanctuary looked, it was functional. the tower he called his home held the signal for the internet, and it was high speed and to the liking of his members. they had electricity and all the creature comforts they could want. either bokuto himself would gather the things they'd need, or they would get what they wanted through legal or... illegal means. he never judged. why not take from the people that shunned them? why not.

but no one touched his tower but himself. this was his spot. his room a large loft at the very top of a treacherous climb from the abandoned sections below him. no one liked it like he did, no one ever wanted to be up so high. but... they weren't of his feather or his ilk, so they wouldn't understand. he was boasting around thirty members of this community... none of which were shifters. but his was a rare kind, not many shifters existed- they were a prize to be hunted by those who sought to rid the paranormal from the planet, so only few yet live.

it was an exciting night, however, as he perched at the very highest point of his foreboding place.

he had a few contacts in the nearby city, one of which was a normal teenage boy who once nursed a broken wing back to healthy after a bit of a tussle. kuroo tetsurou. a good guy... and he would be visiting tonight with a newly exposes shifter. he could barely contain his excitement. and at the first sign of movement at the entrance of his compound he leaps off his perch, changing into his great horned owl form mid fall, and with two mighty flaps and a loud hoot he reached them in no time, landing gracefully on the outstretched arm of the teen, chrring softly and nuzzling a feathered head against his neck.

he gives a few curious chirps as he looks around the tall boy to see the smaller one he was bringing. he's curious but hadn't changed back just yet.]

[Kenma knew a few things about shifters. He knew that they were people that weren't welcomed in society, that was hunted for being different than what society accepted. A shifter couldn't change for fear that a hunter would come and take them away to do something or worst. If someone found out that a person was a shifter they could lose everything in a blink of an eye. Their friends, their family, and they wouldn't be able to work again. They were the secret that society tried to keep hidden from everyone else under the excuse that it was for everyone's safety.

Something that Kenma happened to be. As if he didn't feel out of place enough he was a shifter. He couldn't believe when it happened, luckily the first time it happened he was home alone. It scared him so bad when he shifted back into his human form. What would he do? He couldn't go anywhere without worrying that it would happen or when it would happen. His nerves weren't the best, even on his good days. Now he had something that he couldn't control that could potentially hurt him.

Kenma couldn't stop thinking about it. How did he get this? Of all the things to get, it had to be this? Then what about Kuroo? What if he found out then turned his back on him. The thought scared him so much that when he visited Kuroo, he shifted. He hid under his bed, thinking of ways to escape when Kuroo eased him out. He shifted back and they talked about it.

One of the good things that came out of his new form was that Kuroo wouldn't leave him. The other that came out of it was that Kuroo knew someone that could help him. Kenma didn't look forward to meeting someone else, but he knew it would be for the best. Kuroo wasn't a shifter, despite his best efforts he could only help out as much. Besides, he didn't want to get Kuroo in trouble if he happened to accidentally shift when they were together. It would be a little tough at first, but he could do it.

Kenma stayed close to Kuroo on their way to this place he mentioned. He gripped the strap of his bag along the way through the forest. He had to calm down or he would have shifted many times during their trek through the forest. He tried to calm down when they entered the abandoned industrial district with the tower that looked like no one could live it. Kenma looked around, trying to take in as much as he could of his new home for awhile when he heard the loud hoot.

Kenma looked up to see a great horned owl coming their way pretty quickly. The owl was fast, too fast. Between the trek through the forest, then seeing the tower, and now the owl was too much. He shifted before he knew it and stayed close to Kuroo's side. He placed his paw on Kuroo's pants leg, keeping his eyes down on the ground.

He didn't know who the owl was. He hoped he could help him.
